Juneteenth was a Federal Holiday where African Americans enjoyed freedom from slavery. In every city, especially Milwaukee. Streets are being blocked off with signs allowing for parades, police protection, and various local booths with giveaway bags from Milwaukee Public Schools, Milwaukee Public Library, Banks/Bader Philanthropies, Inc., Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Solomon Community Temple, UMC, and more. No one was excluded from petting chickens, riding a pony, enjoying a train wagon ride, or being on a carnival ride chicken coup. There was fun, food, and fellowship for everyone wanting freedom on Juneteenth Day.
Patrons stood in line for rib dinners, pork skins, carnival rides and more. While others were in line talking to booth advocates. The Milwaukee Public Library distributed gift bags with bookmarks including every branch location and hours of operation along with books, handouts on MPL Americorps, and Celebrate Black Voices handouts illustrating Fiction and Nonfiction books along with information on DVDs. One example of a Fiction Books included: The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois: A Novel by Honoree Fanonne Jeffers.
¨While Exploring her familyś heartbreaking, generational trauma, Ailey finds strength to embrace her full heritage. ¨

Another interesting book is called The Prophets by Robert Jones, Jr.
¨Two enslaved boys at a Mississippi cotton plantation find comfort in one another until a fellow slave, looking for approval, starts preaching the masterś gospel and everything changes.¨
