On Sunday, May 18th, 2025, the Christ The King Baptist Church community came together, shining a light on 40 years of unity and togetherness. CTK paid homage to the members who have passed away over the years and recognized the first members who started growing CTK at the YMCA. CTK celebrated these Historical Moments through liturgical dance, CTK News, the Highs and Lows of Ministry from Rev. Don Darius Butler, and debriefing from Pastor John Wesley McVicker, Sr. This event was a true reflection of one’s firm and united community, where every member is valued and cherished.
“All I did was ask,” said Pastor John Wesley McVicker, Sr.
Pastor John Wesley McVicker, Sr., shares the inspiring journey of the church’s growth, from humble beginnings at the YMCA with a small number of members to conducting two services at 4422 West Leon Terrance and, finally, building a new church and school at 7750 N. 60th Street on Port. This remarkable growth is a testament to the dedication and faith of the CTK community.

It was a simple Request That led to CTK’s growth. The quote, ‘ALL I did was ask,’ reflects the humble beginnings and the power of a single question in shaping CTK’s church’s journey.
Pastor McVicker also outlined how God orchestrated the land. The land that he saw on Port casually passing by to go to Northridge Mall led him to ask the question to a faithful and long-time member of CTK, Julietta Henry. She said, “Per the Archdiocese, “the land can only be used and built for a church, not a condo. JESUS allowed CTK to build on Port for the Word of God, worship, and witness.
