In January 2025, Christ The King Baptist Church Leaders began their new year with Education. Notably, with Pastor John Wesley McVicker, Sr. unable to attend, this comprehensive one-day event was led and instructed by Executive Pastor Treyvon J. Sinclair, Sr.
Executive Pastor Sinclair’s clear objective for this one-day training was to equip ministry leaders with the practical tools, mindset, and strategies to transition from managing to leading, preparing their ministries to “finish strong” in alignment with Philippians 1:6. This comprehensive training empowers leaders, ensuring they are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead effectively, making them feel ready and capable for their roles.

After a delicious breakfast from Volunteers Leader Larry Lathan and his Team and a deacon devotion, the morning event kicked off with the practical part of the day. This hands-on approach, including an icebreaker led by Porscha Webb, leader of the New Generation Youth Activities & Fundraising (NYGM), was designed to help leaders decipher which leader could do the job and which could not, a crucial aspect of effective leadership.
Following this, Executive Pastor Sinclair focused on leaders who prepare, like Michael Jordan, Simone Biles, Serena Williams, Chick-fil-A, and The All Blacks.

“Champions do not just show up; they prepare, persist, and envision success, said Executive Pastor Sinclair.”
“Champions do not just show up; they prepare, persist, and envision success.” This emphasis on preparation should inspire and motivate our leaders, reminding them of its crucial role in their success and instilling a sense of inspiration and motivation.
Executive Pastor Sinclair continues to advise the leaders to write in their writing packs and fill in the blanks about leaders having certain Attributes.

Visionary: Leaders see the end goal and inspire others

Servant-hearted: Leaders focus on the needs of others.

Disciplined: Leaders maintain consistent habits.

Adaptable: Leaders respond gracefully to change.

Humble: Leaders admit mistakes and seek input.

Leaders are not bossy, task-focused, afraid to take risks, and dismissive of others.
Vision & Preparation: Key Scriptures

Executive Pastor Sinclair also focused on Leadership v Management
Executive Pastor Sinclair highlighted the difference between leadership and management. Managers concentrate on scheduling, while leaders focus on casting vision and setting goals. Managers monitor attendance, but leaders seek to identify disengaged individuals. Managers enforce policies, whereas leaders aim to inspire others about those policies. While Sinclair made many more comparisons, these are some key distinctions supported by relevant scriptures.

Executive & Commitment
Sinclair emphasizes that the leader’s goal should be to increase volunteer engagement by hosting a volunteer appreciation night. {Side-Bar, Pastor John Wesley McVicker, Sr., preached a long time ago: Have a Matthew Party} Pair seasoned volunteers with new ones. Leaders will discover needed resources, like event supplies, venue, space, and volunteer roster. Leaders are accountable, so they have measures such as monthly check-ins with the team and tracking mentor-mentee interactions. Parallel Scriptures are below:

Heart of Leadership focuses on Leadership in the Church
Leadership is about Service, not Status. Evidentiary Scriptures speak volumes about the Heart of a Kingdom Leader.

“When we slack in ministry, we dishonor the responsibility God has entrusted to us.”
“Serving as a leader is a response to God’s goodness, not a transaction.”
Key Scripture References are below.

The closing challenge was 2 Timothy 4:7. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” This reiteration of the key takeaways should reassure CTK leaders and boost their confidence in their roles.

The leaders left the trench, a metaphor for the challenges and struggles they face in their leadership roles, and revived for spiritual battle, ready to face the obstacles and opportunities that come with leading in the church.
