On Sunday, June 23rd, 2024, Christ the King Baptist Church hosted a diverse and engaging event on Saturday night with the Reunion Concert, a musical extravaganza featuring performances from past and present members of the CTK choir. The next day, on Sunday morning during worship, They celebrated the future of their youth by recognizing and honoring faithful youth in the church with plaques of recognition. This heartfelt gesture sincerely appreciated and valued the youth, reinforcing their importance in the church community.

They also honored Leader Jennie Dorsey with a farewell trophy. Leader Lawrence Bell was also recognized for his commendable leadership and growth in the church as a youngster; he also placed free food vouchers under some seats for a free barbecue dinner after service for some winners. Those who did not receive a free food voucher could still participate in the fundraiser by purchasing food.

Farewell to Jennie Dorsey

“Farewell to Jennie Dorsey, a retired Milwaukee Public Schools Administrator. She was the vice chair of Christ The King’s Board of Directors and a leader of the Christ The King Educational Scholarship Ministry, along with Mondell Mayfield and others, for a long time. She is a respected figure who has significantly contributed to the Milwaukee community.” Dorsey has been a Christ The King Baptist Church member for 36 years, since August 31st, 1987. She joined with another now retired MPS Adminstrator, Theresa O’Bee, and The Swifts.

Pastor John Wesley McVicker, Sr. added, “She retired from Milwaukee Public Schools and stabilized King’s Academy where we needed her the most.”

“She’s a great leader and mentor in Jennie Dorsey. We thank her for all that she did.”

Dorsey will be relocating to Texas, and she added,

“Thank you, Pastor and Marilynn, for your love.”

A captivating keynote sermon from Dr. Sipho Mhlanga, a distinguished graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, enriched Sunday’s service in an energetic way. With a doctorate in his studies and a wealth of experience, Dr. Mhlanga is a respected preacher at St. Mark Baptist Church. He shared his profound insights on the theme ‘Jesus’ Loves You! ‘, leaving all inspired and uplifted.

“Love me without expectation. It is an act of one’s will. It is not reciprocated. It is not based on your behavior, but I still love you.” Agape love, per Dr. Mhlanga.

From Homer and Gomer
Unconditional love looks like Hosea, the Prophet. He didn’t communicate. I lived it out. Hosea finds a wife named Gomer. Hosea means Salvation. Gomer means Completion. Gomer was beautiful. “If I were a newspaper, she would be my top story.”

To God and Israel
They dated, and she said Yes. They bear three children. She leaves. She cheated. She deceived me; She decided to walk away from me. I loved someone who wasn’t loyal to me. I have to go on to pursue my abandoned wife.

God and Israel- Israel started to prosper and forgot about God. Israel forgot what God did for them. Now, they worship idol gods.

Then You and God
God has shown you unconditional love and provided for you. Everyone can get your attention, but God has to play second fiddle. He made sure your needs were met. You say you love Him, but your fidelity is to everyone else. You are not committed or dedicated to Him, yet He remains faithful to You. God has never ignored your call. God has never walked away from you.

Sunday’s After-Service Barbecue was a heartwarming effort to support ten youths traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, for a rewarding Christian conference in the fall. This event not only provided a delicious meal for our congregation but also symbolized our collective support and care for the younger generation. It’s a testament to our commitment to nurturing the future leaders of our church and community.
